HPA

Founded in 1949, HPA provides boarding for students in grades 9-12 and post graduate (PG). HPA is a global community for highly-motivated students who seek rigorous academic programs and extraordinary learning experiences. HPA's unique island location, which includes 80 percent of the world's ecosystems, provides opportunities for students to engage in specialized place-based learning.

In the last three years, HPA students were admitted, among others, to the following top-tier universities: Amherst, Brown, Carnegie Mellon, U. of Chicago, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, MIT, U. of Michigan, New York University, U Penn, Princeton, Rice, USC, Standford, Tufts and Yale.

Academic: Our academic program combines a solid foundation of traditional liberal arts education with student-driven, project-based learning. Under the quidance of faculty mentors, students produce independent work in science, the arts, and many other disciplines. Energy Lab

Discover a wealth of resources inside the world's most sustainable school building. Collaborate with peers; partner with places like NASA, the Keck Observatory, and Stanford and Cornell Universities.

 

Outdoor Program

Explore the majestic landscapes, vital ecosystems, and cultural significance of Hawai‘i Island and our region through kayaking, surfing, hiking, and other trips. Learn to live the meaning of aloha 'aina.

 

Sea Turtle Research

Since 1987, in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), HPA students have studied green sea turtles in Hawai‘i and many other parts of the world. This is hands-on science at its best!

Equestrian Program

 

A true signature program at HPA, the Equestrian Program began in 1957; students at all skill level can enjoy polo, jumping, dressage, trail riding, and even some Western Style riding.
