Rangi Ruru Girls’ School Information:

Our community is a very important part of the framework that makes Rangi Ruru the successful and enduring school that you see today. It takes a collective effort to nurture strong and independent individuals and our focus is on building a community of support and care across and beyond our school. We understand that the teenage years can be challenging, and we have a strong and extensive pastoral care support structure in place. The triangle of school, parents and daughter is an important one.

Pastoral: We have a strong focus on the diverse needs, strengths and potential of each girl particularly in view of the uncertain and quickly evolving future we are preparing them for. We value connection and relationships and get to know your daughters through the high quality of our provision of pastoral care and development. Our Wellbeing Coordinator, Deans, Tutors and Year 13 Form Seniors, assisted by all teaching and non-teaching staff, deliver a carefully targeted Wellbeing Programme to each year level which is firmly aligned with our Values and the principles of Positive Education and Psychology. Staff and students all engage with the programme in order to develop healthy habits to be able to ‘feel good and function well’. Competencies, a growth mindset, character strengths and leadership are developed through a variety of opportunities which include Peer Support, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award, and Education Outside the Classroom (camps, exchanges, overseas and domestic trips, student conferences). Our Global Living Programme is unique and holistic. Girls are empowered to contribute to their own wellbeing while coping with the challenges they will inevitably face as local community members and global citizens.

Sport and Culture: At Rangi Ruru, we are deeply committed to promoting the health, fitness, and wellbeing of all girls. We aim to develop talent and a life-long enthusiasm for sport and exercise. We are one of New Zealand’s highest achieving schools in sport and consistently have one of the highest rates of sports participation in New Zealand. In 2018 we were New Zealand’s Top Girls Rowing School and are frequently New Zealand’s Top Girls Hockey School. Our Multi Sport, Swimming, Equestrian, Cricket, Tennis, Touch, and Basketball have also won or performed highly in Canterbury and Nationally. SOAR, our High-Performance Sports Programme caters to our outstanding athletes by providing a support network within the school that compliments and enhances the sporting and academic lives of our young sportswomen. OUR SPORTS COACHES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE We believe our investment in top quality coaches is of significant benefit to our girls’ success and wellbeing. We have specialist trainers for strength & conditioning, mental agility and a physio to work with the girls to ensure optimal performance.
