St. Michaels University School (SMUS) is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Founded in 1906, our school community includes over 995 students in K – 12. Our Senior School (9 – 12) has 579 students, including 257 boarding students hailing from more than 21 countries around the world. 20% of the student population receive financial aid from the school.
SMUS is committed to academic excellence and offers extensive programs in the arts, athletics, service and leadership, as well as opportunities for experiental for experiential education. The school has graduated six students who went on to become Rhodes Scholars.
The school is accredited by the British Columbia Ministry of Education and the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS).
Academic Programmes: The Advanced Placement (AP) program at SMUS is the leading AP program among all independent schools in Canada and is ranked #1 in the country by the College Board for equity and excellence. SMUS was one of nine schools in Canada seiencted to pilot the AP Capstone program and students have had the opportunity to earn a Capstone Diploma since June 2016. The Capstone Diploma is earned with score of 3 or more in both AP Seminar and AP Research, in addition ot four other AP subjects. In May of 2017, 244 students wrote a total of 605 AP exam across 28 different subjects. Of the 605 exams, 82% were graded three or higher.
