Kingswood is a historically significant school, founded in 1748 by John Wesley. It continues to provide a happy, caring and friendly environment based on Christian principles for boys and girls aged 3-18.
Kingswood is a school which transforms lives, and the commitment to make a real difference to every child who passes through sits at the very heart of the School’s ethos. All-round excellence remains the central aim together with the desire to assist every individual to reach his or her true potential. Academic standards are high with 92% of Sixth Form students attending their first choice University on completing their ‘A level’ studies, including Oxbridge places.
There are excellent facilities for both boarders and day pupils within one of the most beautiful school sites in the South West of England; 218 acres of parkland, yet only ten minutes walk to the World Heritage City of Bath. It is also within easy reach of major road, rail and air links from London Heathrow and Gatwick and is only 90 minutes by train from London.
In September 2015 the Senior School (ages 11-18) is made up of 733 pupils; 183 boarding students and 562 day pupils. There are a further 300 pupils in the Prep School, also on site. The community at Kingswood is enhanced by including students from all around the world. It welcomes students of all faiths and from all countries. There are normally around twenty different countries represented within the school community and this September there are 85 International students. All are warmly welcomed and a 'buddy' pupil (often someone who will speak their native language) is chosen to help and assist them on arrival as part of their familiarisation programme.
The breadth of culture and diverse backgrounds of students from other countries provide a truly 'international' flavour to the School and this allows students to make enriching friendships with a wide range of young people. There is a policy of restricting the number of places the School offers to students from any one particular country within each year group, so that the opportunity to become fully integrated into the whole school community and to experience a British education is maximised. Day pupils and their families are very pleased to invite and welcome our international students to their homes at weekends and holidays with permissions from parents and by arrangement with House Parents at the School.
The fees represent excellent value for money as there are no hidden extras. Fees per term for 2015-16 will be GBP 10,443 which includes full support for English as an Additional Language provided as required. All students will however be fully integrated into normal classroom teaching alongside the children in their peer group and all students will study GCSE plus (IGCSE Science) and A level programmes. Outside the classroom, we offer our pupils over 100 recreational activities, clubs and societies which enrich their education and their friendships within the School.
There are some amazing facilities and opportunities for all children to become involved in an exciting performing arts programme. Music is a great strength with a separate Music School within the campus, complete with a professional standard Recording Studio. Sport is also a high priority with fixtures for teams at all levels. Pupils with exceptional talents who are performing at national and in some cases international level, will also be encouraged through additional clubs to extend their talents and skills.
The school’s recent inspection report in 2015 rated Kingswood as excellent in all areas and the relationships between the staff and pupils are of great importance to the Headmaster and Governors of the School.
Kingswood has enjoyed having students from Thailand for many years. The very first Thai student joined the school in 1951 and still has very fond memories of his very happy times and experiences!
