Bishopstrow College is co-educational international boarding preparation school for students aged between 7 – 17 years old.  We are the UK’s only independent preparation school, entirely dedicated to helping international students prepare for entry into the UK’s leading boarding schools.  Students are therefore free to choose where they continue their education.  Each term we welcome up to 80 boys and girls from around the world and a wide variety of cultural backgrounds.  From the moment they arrive at Bishopstrow, students are immersed and integrated into British life and culture.  Throughout their stay, which lasts at least one term or more, although we have a boarding taster programme which is for 5 weeks in the Summer, they receive intensive preparation for entry into the very best schools in the country.   We also offer a 1 Year IGCSE/Pre-IB Programme providing international students with access to Sixth Form at some of top schools in the UK and Europe.

Academic Programmes:

The College offers a range of programmes to suit all ages and requirements, lasting from one term to a year.  These programmes help students:

Improve their language skills, through intensive English language tuition.;

Immerse them  in the National Curriculum, in a number of subjects including Mathematics, Geography, History and Science, through the College’s Lower, Middle and Upper College Programmes;

Preparation placement tests for UK independent schools and Cambridge English Language Assessment examinations;

Experience boarding school life first hand;

1 Year IGCSE / Pre-IB Programme for students aged 15 or 16 years.  This offers up to 12 examinable students and is an excellent preparation of international students before they begin their A Level studies or the IB Diploma Programme.

5 week Academic Summer Programme aimed at international students who will be joining British boarding schools in the September or those who wish to sample British education in the summer.

Students benefit from small class sizes, with a maximum of 8 students in each English class, allowing very high levels of individual teacher time.  An Individual Learning Plan is prepared for every student, detailing progress, areas for improvement and recommendations for the next level.

The success of the College’s innovative approach is demonstrated by the quality of the ‘destination schools’ which include Badminton School, Bromsgrove School, Bryanston School,  King’s Canterbury School, Leighton Park School, Oakham School, Prior Park College, Queen Ethelburga’s College, Queenswood,  The Dragon School and Uppingham.

Pastoral:

Students’ safety and welfare is taken extremely seriously.  The College’s pastoral care has been judged an area of strength.  Fully-qualified staff are always available to discuss personal and health matters with students.  All students have access to indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, common rooms and study spaces and all meals are served in the main dining room.

Sports and Social Programme:

The College’s extra curricular programme includes a range of daily traditional British sports, morning and evening clubs and activities, designed to foster team spirit and the confidence to integrate with others when students move on.

Weekly Trips:

The weekend programme of fully-supervised trips allowing students to discover places of cultural, geographical and historical interest; others encourage students to sample the great outdoors through walking, hiking, cycling and other physical pursuits.  Sightseeing, cultural visits and even shopping provide contexts within which speaking and listening skills are put to the test; they are also great fun and provide memories to last a lifetime.
